SYNOPSIS FOR: Hacksaw Ridge
Hacksaw Ridge is a biographical war film based on a true story about WWII American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss. Although a Seventh-day Adventist and a firm believer in the Sixth Commandment “thou shall not kill” Doss enlisted in the army to fight in World War II. During training his officers and fellow soldiers mistook his refusal to bear arms as cowardice and made life difficult for him.
Doss served as a medic and was deployed with his unit to participate in the Battle of Okinawa. In order to engage the Japanese forces, the Americans had to climb the Maeda Escarpment known as Hacksaw Ridge. There were many fatalities on both sides, but Doss was credited for saving the lives of 75 wounded soldiers who were stranded on the ridge.
Desmond T. Doss was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Harry S. Truman in 1945.
